Where There Is No Vision by R.M. Engelhardt

“Where there is no vision, the people perish; rather, cast off restraint, become ungovernable, cannot be reined in” ~ Exodus 32:22, 25

WHERE THERE IS NO VISION :
Is the new book of poetic-prose by poet/writer R.M. Engelhardt written over the last several months March ~June of 2020 coming off of his last book of mysticism & poetry “DarkLands”. His new work”Where There Is No Vision” poetically and vividly captures the days & these times of fear, racism, death and the coronavirus quarantine with all the rage, truth, anger, grieving & sadness of a divided, broken & exploited American people betrayed by their own sociopathic President and even by both parties of their own government who did nothing to stop his reign or the death surrounding us themselves. The year 2020 will be remembered as the year a great nation was almost destroyed by a tyrant and his supporters. “Where There Is No Vision” will also be remembered for it’s scathing cry out against a country & administration which refuses to change or even save it’s own people who are on the verge of a near revolution and a recognition of false heroes, values and the destruction of a fraudulent democracy ruled by wealth & race.

Be Warned.

A Reckoning is Coming.

The Ballad of Fast Eddie

Picsart2017-30-11--09-57-00.jpg

THE BALLAD OF FAST EDDIE

Back
In the 1970s
Fast Eddie was
An old man
Who walked
Down the streets
Of the city
Of Troy
Looking for a
Fight looking for
All the bad guys in
A child sized
Cowboy hat with
Two cap
Pistols & his
Belt looking
For the
OK Corral
On the streets
And in the
Alleyways of
The city where
He was the sheriff
Waiting for the clock
To strike

Noon

“Eat lead!”

Eddie would yell
At all the passersby’s
Who laughed
At him cap
Guns blazing in
The air
The sun the
Fastest gunslinger
In the West
This side of
Albany a legend
Who kept Troy
Safe from a world
Too hard to
Understand too
Scared to deal
With life & all
The pressures
Of the world
And of
The mind

Eddie
Liked his
Sarsaparilla
Straight up
And took no
Gruff from
Anyone another
Hero lost in time
Protecting the world
From the men in
Black hats that
We could
Never see

Eddie
Was a real
Gunfighter
A real man that
All the children
Could look up
To a man who
Was kind but
Tough but who
Didn’t see the
End coming

Until one
Day when
Eddie was casually
Walking down
The block
And got shot down
By the gas company
Maintenance man
Known to all his friends
As Tom Terrific
Who pointed his
Finger at Eddie
And said

“Draw!”

And fired

But Eddie just
Wasn’t fast
Enough
His pistols never
Leaving the holsters
In time

Pow! Pow!
Tom’s finger
Took him down
And Eddie
Pretended to
Be shot
And dropped
To the ground

And
That was
The End
Of Fast
Eddie
And he
Was sent
To a psychiatric
Hospital
Where they
Just called him

“Ed”

Among the counting of forevers,
years, photographs
Reminders

It is love that only remembers
Anyways

Beyond the damage
Or the seasons,
The body or disdain
The distance
or the longing
The heart, or the age

It is love that only remembers,
Anyways

But is that, this really love?

The mind that says “yes”

For perhaps it is only a semblance

Of a face that never fades.

But in the end
Like in the beginning

It is love that only remembers
Anyways

And that is all there truly is.

In thy breaking heart, obscured,
Silent whereas no one
Gives a “shit.”

Whereas a single voice or one still moment in
its measure linger,
This message, “unrecieved.”

Where no amount of time, wine-roses or memories can heal.
As human falls, fails broken, out of reason.
Long letters written, months recorded days, photographs and longings,

And unrelenting dreams.

The cold earth, this cold world
Which still compels,
The embodiment or abandonment, of spirit.

Where all of your magnificent angels have flown, and have now fallen below,

To the pavement.

Love, no longer a poem but only a word,
Too slow to process.

Poet, out of time place and season.
Century… Here.

In thy soul, thy breaking heart obscured, silent.
Whereas no one gives a “shit.”

Etc Etc.Etc.

This message “unrecieved.”

Arm yourself with pens and imagination, the paper is the empty space between the silence and the void. Fill it with words and ideas of grand thoughts and designs, unseen moments glimpsed out of secret corners.

“People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that’s bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they’re afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they’re wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It’s all in how you carry it. That’s what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you’re letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.”

~ Jim Morrison
