AND YOU WILL REMEMBER

AND YOU WILL
REMEMBER

Once.

There is, was
Nothing

Is, was
Nothing

At all

But the
Dead

Who
In their
Final moments
Their last
Breath were
Surrounded
By panic

And fear

Politics

And despair

Struggling
To live

To survive

Unable

To scream

Where black
Orange &
Yellow
Bodybags
Lined the
Hospital
Hallways

Across nations
Across the world

Where
Photos, media
Flashed
Across giant
Internet screens

Confirming
Loss

And the
Doctors &
Nurses
Essential
Workers

Fought on

Some died

But there
Is, was no
Prayer

No anger

To a missing
God or a
Tyrant, the
Monster of all
Hate, lust  & greed

Envy

And sloth

Who ?

With a
Casual smile upon
His face

Lived on

And we ?

The survivors
The angry
The broken
The hopeless
&  the poor,
The weak
The powerless
The middle-class
And all the old
And all the young
Of the world

Did nothing.

We

Did nothing

We

Did nothing

We

Did nothing

At The End of The World

R.M. Engelhardt

They used to say this place is called the “End of the World

And it has gone by many other names

Like Apocalypse

Rapture

End Days

And people have been talking
About it forever, for centuries
Putting it in books

But if you choose
To believe in all of this,

Do nothing. Don’t stand. Don’t change.
Don’t resist with a true belief  in the
Human spirit, a greater love or faith

Then the End of The World
Becomes a simple truth

INTERVIEW WITH A POET

Poetry isn’t the story of everything

It’s whistling in the dark and

waiting for an answer

DARK LANDS BOOK Reviews R.M. Engelhardt

Telegraphic missives from the bleak future of now taking in spirit machine and blood . A faint hope beyond hopelessness still guiding the words .

~ Steve Kilbey (The Church)

****

R.M. Engelhardt is one of the finest poets currently drawing breath and this book is one hell of a ride. I’ve lost track of whether or not there is any such thing as “truth” left in the world, but these poems convey another quality almost as rare: genuine honesty about things that matter. Dark, rich, nuanced, emotionally risky, and crafted by an artist of the first rank, Darklands is a collection to keep you reading and rereading, and thinking long after. Highly recommended.

As always R.M. provides us with powerful and succinct snapshots of our world. He has taken the path of the “Shaman”, assimilating the cultural’raw material’ and through his unigue lens trans-substantiated, the dross into lessons and observations that we are now, all the better, for hearing. Cheers to  the Outsider Gentleman!

“R.M. Engelhardt’s Darklands reads like a quick shuffle through the Killing Fields, digging through the bones for “the dreams of the broken.” Dystopian concerns of mortality dominate this book which does not sugarcoat anything in a very accessible language, something I can appreciate greatly.”

Ryan Quinn Flanagan (Author of The Road to Hell is Paved with Writers)

Strange Beasts

eyevine6.02587930cmyk

STRANGE BEASTS
We no longer
Dwell in forests
The woods or
Hunt, ponder
About nature
Instead
We walk through
Graveyards
On sunny days
Admiring the
Headstones
Of those
Who once did

Or watch
Movies

At the mall

Gather
Our food
At Trader Joe’s

Drink purified
Water from
Plastic containers

And still
Allow morons
To take land
Away from those
Who coexist
With it

Our tribe
Our people
Are unnatural

Unbeautiful

Strange beasts
Who destroy
Everything to
Create garbage

Our own
Funerals

More headstones
That cover the
Earth

With our
Own shit
