The Murder of Christopher Marlowe…

The Murder of Christopher Marlowe

Was Marlowe Really Murdered?

For the past 50 years or so, a theory has been put forth that Christopher Marlowe was not murdered at all. The proposition is that his killing was faked, and that Marlowe escaped from inevitable prosecution as a heretic by fleeing abroad. The main proponent of this theory, Calvin Hoffman, maintained in numerous writings that Christopher Marlowe was the author of the plays of Shakespeare. The outlines of his theory go something like this…

Was Marlowe Really Murdered?

UnSung Poets : Joyce Kilmer WW1

Alfred Joyce Kilmer (December 6, 1886 – July 30, 1918) was an American journalist, poet, literary critic, lecturer, and editor. Though a prolific poet whose works celebrated the common beauty of the natural world as well as his religious faith, Kilmer is remembered most for a short poem entitled “Trees” (1913), which was published in the collection Trees and Other Poems in 1914. While most of his works are unknown, a select few of his poems remain popular and are published frequently in anthologies. Several critics, both Kilmer’s contemporaries and modern scholars, disparaged Kilmer’s work as being too simple, overly sentimental, and suggested that his style was far too traditional, even archaic.

At the time of his deployment to Europe during the first World War (1914–1918), Kilmer was considered the leading American Catholic poet and lecturer of his generation, whom critics often compared to British contemporaries G. K. Chesterton (1874–1936) and Hilaire Belloc (1870–1953).[1][2][3] A sergeant in the 165th U.S. Infantry Regiment (better known as ‘The Fighting 69th), Kilmer was killed at the Second Battle of the Marne in 1918 at the age of 31.

Joyce Kilmer...Poet

  119. Trees   I THINK that I shall never see  A poem lovely as a tree.     A tree whose hungry mouth is prest  Against the sweet earth’s flowing breast;     A tree that looks at God all day,         5 And lifts her leafy arms to pray;     A tree that may in summer wear  A nest of robins in her hair;     Upon whose bosom snow has lain;  Who intimately lives with rain.  10    Poems are made by fools like me,  But only God can make a tree.

Former Doors Mark 40th Anniversary of Jim Morrison’s Death

Jim Morrison July 2, 1971

Former members of The Doors have marked the 40th anniversary of Jim Morrison’s death in Paris.

On Sunday, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger lit candles at Morrison’s grave in the city’s Pere Lachaise cemetery.

Morrison, the band’s lead singer, died of heart failure in a bath in Paris on 2 July 1971. He was 27.

Hundreds of Morrison fans, some wearing T-shirts bearing the words 40th Anniversary, left flowers at the grave.

Some sang and others read poems to mark the day.

Morrison moved to Paris in 1971 to write.

He was found dead in the bath by his girlfriend, Pamela Courson. A doctor’s report stated the cause of death was heart failure aggravated by heavy drinking.

Morrison, the son of a US Navy admiral, was born in 1943 in Florida.

He formed The Doors with Manzarek in 1965 in Los Angeles

The band name was inspired by Aldous Huxley’s The Doors of Perception, about the author’s drug use.

Lou Reed Has A New Edgar Allen Poe-Inspired Graphic Novel

Poe Lou Reed

Lou Reed been quite busy these days. When he’s not collaborating with Metallica on a record, he’s spending time putting together a graphic novel based around his “spiritual forefather” Edgar Allen Poe, called, appropriately, The Raven.

It’s not Reed’s first tangle with the author—in 2003, he released an album, also called The Raven, a Poe-themed project in which “Reed’s poetically streetwise sensibility merged with Poe’s dark chronicles of terror and despair.” Now Reed’s Poe-esque lyrics have been collected into a book and illustrated with paintings by New Yorker cartoonist Lorenzo Mattotti. And yes, the book looks just as creepy as you’d expect.

Hell’s Wisdom
(read the original manuscript in the Baroness archives)

<All wisdom is profoundly trivial>
Love is gravitation

My “Derangement” dwells in absence – as – under circumstances existing – normally – it
should be present.
It maintains in circumstance –
There I leave it.
My being in senses right is normal height.
It being uncommon – presents strange – as genius does – uncompanioned.
Victim of circumstance I am not – as I am no dweller in
For me – to be touched – touchably – by circumstance – normal
To vacuous spectres of substance past – should so be abnormal – as to cause revulsion
degree –
Provoking instant insanity – whence I am protected by radius of spiritual emanation

To circumstance I am immaterial – as is circumstance to me.
Diametricaly opposed – alone we leave each other – charmed aloft
Lone I – enhanced shrouded earth – by own atmosphere mine self’s own self – out-of
circumstance cosmic star – volve revolve – evolve -I do – by starshaped pride stygmatized
outcast from circumstanced press – presssure – I am.

Social insanity – cosmic sanity – visible flesh – I am not present.
Cosmic resident .
